ABSTRACT: Engineers use different methods to determine rainfall intensity specific duration and return periods in drainage
projects, the most relevant being the Gumbel method, the Log-Pearson Type III Distribution, and the Graphic
Method, which are the methods most often used in Venezuela. The main objective of this research is to compare
the different methods used in forecasting maximum rainfall intensity for hydraulic structure design. To achieve
this purpose, all three methods were applied to twelve pluviographic stations in eastern Venezuela. Results show
that the maximum precipitation intensity values were obtained for the 2, 5, and 10 year return periods using both
the Gumbel and Log-Pearson Type III methods, and for 25, 50, and 100 years of return period using the Graphic
method. These results suggest that the Gumbel and the Log-Pearson Type III Distribution methods are applicable
for return periods of up to 25 years, whereas the Graphic method should be used for periods above 25 years.2006-12-01T00:00:00ZCOMPARACIÓN DEL EFECTO INHIBIDOR DE EXTRACTOS DE AJÍ DULCE (Capsicum chinense) SOBRE EL CRECIMIENTO DE Escherichia coli y Bacillus sp.Colivet, JulioBelloso, GenetteHurtado, Ernestohttp://ri2.bib.udo.edu.ve:8080/jspui/handle/123456789/38772017-11-05T19:13:36Z2006-12-01T00:00:00ZTítulo : COMPARACIÓN DEL EFECTO INHIBIDOR DE EXTRACTOS DE AJÍ DULCE (Capsicum chinense) SOBRE EL CRECIMIENTO DE Escherichia coli y Bacillus sp.

ABSTRACT: The antimicrobial activity of ethanol, ether, and water extracts of sweet red pepper (Capsicum chinense) was
evaluated on the growth of Escherichia coli and Bacillus sp. streaked on nutrition agar. The extracts were obtained
by drying both whole and longitudinally-sectioned sweet peppers in a conventional stove at temperatures between
70 and 100ºC using the reflux extraction method. The antimicrobial activity was determined by diffusion in agar
from filter paper disks, the ethanol extracts presenting halos of inhibition. An ANOVA was performed to assess
their variability, the results indicating that the highest antimicrobial activity was obtained from the sweet pepper
that was dehydrated whole at a temperature of 100ºC and diluted at 25%, 50%, and 75%. It was found that the
25% concentration was effective for both microorganisms. The assays were performed at the Nutrition and Forage
Laboratories, Food Technology and Microbiology Department of the School of Zootechnics of the Universidad de
ABSTRACT: Several years ago, gas was a hydrocarbon of irrelevant importance for Venezuela, to the extent that it was
considered a waste for the national petroleum industry. Today, this resource has taken great importance, since
the area located in Paria has reactivated the intention to develop this energy factor, through strategic alliances
with private and international investment. This paper was oriented towards determining the possible social and
economic impact that this complex could cause in the Municipality of Mariño - Sucre State. The method used was
descriptive with a combination of documentary analysis and field work. Non-probabilistic intentional sampling
was applied, selecting elements based on the criteria of the researchers. According to the results, it was possible
to determine that the Gulf of Paria will need more and better social assistance (medical, educational, etc.) and
technical support to increase the skills at work and life condition. The impact of the complex over the municipality
in study promised to be positive; changing significantly, the current situation of the municipality. It will stop being
a craft fishing community to become a population with a great economic growth, as a consequence of the oil
activities and connected operations which will be developing in the area.2006-06-01T00:00:00Z
